Cattledog Dreams works hard
to include happy images of all
our dogs. This is easy to do
once the dog has been out of
the shelter for a few days, but
most of the dogs look like
Fergus here when they
arrive.
What does it cost to make
one dog happy?
A minimum of $530
That assumes:
- They arrive healthy
- They are adopted
within a month
- No one other than the
vet needs to be paid
for their time
- The vet will work at a
significant discount
- There are no
complications in the
spay or neuter
operation
- No other medical
procedures are
needed.

Don't believe it?
We didn't either until we put pen to paper. Here are the numbers:
Shelter Fee $ 0 to $80/dog Let's assume "0" for this calculation
Transportation $180/dog Includes the minimum number of trips
to and from the shelter and vet, plus a
conservative number of trips to the

rate for 2009 of 51cents/mile
Medical $200/dog For alteration, micro chipping, shots,

The adoption fee we charge for a young dog only covers 60% of these costs, and the fee for dogs over 4 only covers 52%.
Please do not ask us to reduce our adoption fees. If you cannot afford to pay them, it is our opinion that you cannot afford a dog.
